Hand make an acoustic guitar to your own design. Nylon or steel string? Full body or cut-away? Left-handed? Bespoke? You draw your own templates, select your own wood, craft each component, and assemble, finish and set-up something you can be proud of for the rest of your life. We'll guide you every step of the way.
With a maximum of three students per course you'll have plenty of one-to-one learning time with our experienced tutor. No prior woodworking experience is necessary, just the willingness to learn and the energy to keep at it.

Small enough to fit into your luggage but striking enough to turn heads, the backpacker guitar is certainly a little different. Learn the basics of guitar-making - from wood carving to intonation setting - through the creation of this unique Martin-inspired piece, customised to suit your personal style.
A maximum of three students per course means you have plenty of one-to-one learning time with our experienced tutor. The result is an instrument to take away with you whenever and a memory to stay with you forever.

About the Tutor, and Goldbeard Head-tinkerer
Our in-house tutor - and Goldbeard's Head-Tinkerer Dave Gilberd - first embarked on the Goldbeard trail way back in 2003, when he took his 26-year-old self – reluctant classic car fixer-upper, motorcycle shop loiterer, and devourer of home baking – off to a world of sawdust and magic: an introductory course to hand-making guitars.
Since the inception of Goldbeard Guitars in 2011 Dave has taught around 200 students the process of crafting their very own instrument and has loved every moment a new string was strung.
